4 Good Reasons To Board A Plane To Corfu

Popular Greek island on the gorgeous Ionian sea

THIS popular Greek island sits on the gorgeous Ionian sea and has plenty to offer yet many holiday-makers only touch the surface of the wonderful sights and activities this spot has available.

Travelling from one side of the island to the other takes only a couple of hours by car and so nothing is ever too far away.

Many hotels offer excursions, however if you’re up for an adventure of your own there is a high volume of car, motorbike and quadbike rental shops across the island.

Here are my top 4 reasons to go:

Sidari

Sidari

The picturesque village of Sidari is home to some of the most beautiful bays on the island.

The landscape has been exposed to soft rock erosion leaving it a stunning sight and one of the most photographed parts of Corfu.

If you’re looking to stay out late, Sidari is the perfect spot.

Lively bars and restaurants sit in the centre of the village – as well as an elderly Greek man who sells delicious corn on the cob.

Restaurant recommendation: Mediterraneo is just outside the busy village and the charming Greek staff sets it apart from the other restaurants.

The food is delicious and there’s a wide selection for all dietary requirements.

Canal D’amour

Canal D’amour

According to the locals of Canal D’amour, if you swim through the “channel of love” you are destined to find the partner of your dreams.

Who doesn’t want that?

You can also partake in a range of water activities, from parasailing to diving, as well as a variety of coastal walks.

Activity recommendation: You can hire pedlos for 10 Euros an hour.

Definitely go for one with a slide.

Kassiopi

This small town isn’t bombarded with tourists and maintains traditional Greek character, perfect for those looking for a bit of culture.

The romantic area is ideal for couples, or anyone looking for a bit of quiet.

Bar recommendation: The peaceful bay at Kassiopi is overlooked by Venus, an atmospheric beach bar offering a relaxed atmosphere and reasonable prices.

Corfu Town - Aqualand

Corfu Town

Corfu, otherwise known as Kerkyra, may seem to be the home of large international brands, but there’s so much more if you dig a little deeper.

This old town holds churches, a fortress and hidden garden squares dating from before 8th Century BC.

Day Trip recommendation: Aqualand water park boasts the third biggest wave machine in Europe and has a fantastic amount of slides, meaning minimal queuing.

From the scary vertical drop slides to the children’s area to the sunbeds, this day is suitable for every member of the family.
