Game Of Thrones Makes Awards History At The Emmys

HBO series bags a whopping 12 awards

GAME of Thrones have come out on top as they won a staggering 12 Emmys, eight at last week’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards and a further four at the glittering 67th ceremony at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles.

The hit show was nominated for a whopping 24 awards and made history by becoming the series to win the most awards in a single year.

Actress Maisie Williams, Gwendoline Christie and Sophie Turner looked gorgeous on the red carpet. Williams, who plays Arya Stark, wore a pastel, textured gown combined with cute white-furred heels.

Her co-star Gwendoline Christie opted for a simple white Giles Deacon gown with a thigh-high slit, drooling in confidence.

Despite a successful six seasons, this year was the first time the show won the prestigious outstanding drama series award.

Another monumental moment occurred when Viola Davis became the first African-American woman to win an Emmy for best lead actress on a drama, quoting civil rights activist Harriet Tubman in her speech: “The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity.”

Peter Dinklage won outstanding supporting actor in a drama series and the show also took home awards for best directing and best writing.

The speeches maintained GoT’s cool demeanour, with Dinklage accepting his award by admitting he had nothing prepared and Benioff and Weiss thanking the show’s cast and crew for “believing in dragons” when collecting the award for outstanding drama.

Congratulating HBO on the success, Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “It’s fantastic to hear of Game of Throne’s incredible success at the Emmy Awards and we send our congratulations to the whole team at HBO.

“Tourism Ireland has collaborated successfully with HBO to highlight the Game of Thrones connection with Northern Ireland and promote the location overseas.

“We were delighted to continue our partnership with HBO in 2015 with an innovative social media campaign that reached millions of people worldwide by highlighting the stunning scenery of Northern Ireland featured in Game of Thrones.

“The high profile and increasing international success of the hit series provides an excellent opportunity to bring Northern Ireland to the attention of the millions of Game of Thrones fans across the world to encourage them to visit.”

Meanwhile fans of the popular HBO show were ecstatic to hear rumours surrounding the upcoming seventh season.

Kit Harrington has been pictured with the rest of the cast filming in Belfast, fuelling reports that the character of Jon Snow is in fact alive.
