LOCAL charity Young Enterprise and Belfast City Council are working together to give Northern Ireland’s young entrepreneurs their biggest ever sales platform at St George’s Market on Wednesday 2 December from 10am – 2pm.

The Big Market will host more than 50 businesses which have all been started by young people aged between 10 and 25 years. On the day there will be live entertainment and popular food traders from St George’s Market.

The event was launched this week by Young Enterprise’s newest Ambassador, David Meade, who has taken on the role to show his support for the young entrepreneurial talent being developed locally by the charity.

Carol Fitzsimons, Chief Executive of Young Enterprise NI, commented: “Each year Young Enterprise supports more than 3,500 young people start businesses across Northern Ireland.  The Big Market will be a fantastic opportunity for these young people to gain experience in trading in a live market environment, whilst developing their skills and confidence for a successful future in life and in work.”

“We’d like to encourage everyone living and working in the city centre and beyond to show their support for these young people by calling in between 10am and 2pm to get a glimpse into the future of entrepreneurship in Northern Ireland and see the work of Young Enterprise first hand.”

Councillor Deirdre Hargey, Chair of Belfast City Council’s City Growth and Regeneration Committee, added: “We’re delighted to open St George’s Market for Young Enterprise and its hundreds of budding entrepreneurs.

“For many this will be their first trading experience but for all it will be an exciting day of opportunity and development that will hopefully inspire our future entrepreneurs to take that next step towards setting up their own business, and the benefits that will bring to both themselves and the growth of our local economy.”

Opportunities are now available for businesses and community organisations to exhibit at The Big Market.  For more information contact Jennifer McGivern at Jennifer.mcgivern@yeni.co.uk or on 028 9032 7003.
